John & Mary Pappjohn Sculpture Park

An extension of the Des Moines Art Center housing its permanent sculpture collection.  This project is central to Des Moines’ redesigned westside “green” culture corridor.  Looking to provide ample viewing from both the street and within the park, this design focuses on defining curatorial zones for viewing different exhibits.  Earth berms were created using parabolic concrete compound-angled retaining walls to create an undulating landscape and allow the museum-goer to wander freely through the exhibits.
